Sustainable Sugar Comes to Market, Sweet News for the Environment

A mill in Sao Paulo, Brazil has become the first to have its sugar cane production certified under the new Bonsucro certification standard, covering more than 130,000 tons of sugar and 63,000 cubic meters of ethanol. The certified sugar has already been scooped up by The Coca-Cola Company’s bottling system.

As one of the world’s thirstiest crops, sugar cane’s production can have major global impacts on water supply and quality and on the environments where it is produced.
