The Basin

Flowing over 3,033 km (1,885 miles), the Rio Grande (known as the Rio Bravo in Mexico) is an iconic river of the American Southwest and northern Mexico. The river serves as a natural border between the United States and Mexico, and provides fresh water to more than 13 million people in both countries. The Rio Grande/Rio Bravo Basin is part of North America’s largest desert – The Chihuahuan – which stretches from Colorado to deep within Mexico.
